August athlete of the month goes to…..
Keith Rothstein and Nicole Poest!
Congrats to these two very deserving individuals. Both of these athletes show up to the gym every day ready to give everything they have.
One of my favorite memories of Keith in the gym was when he showed up to his normal 5am class, AFTER seeing Journey the night before and not getting home until after midnight. That is dedication is I have ever seen it. His journey through CrossFit is pretty simple and to the point, but that doesn’t make it any less relevant. Keith has also been taking care of his body by attending ROM Wod and Yoga sessions every Friday.
Hitting 40 last year was eye opening. How quickly you realize 20 years have passed and 2lbs a year for 20 years adds up quick (especially with a desk job)! Sarah, my wife, had done CrossFit for a few years with great results, but I didn’t have time and it wasn’t convenient. When we moved to Holland 2 years ago, she started at Flight, when the gym moved to its new location, it was time for me to try it out. 1.5 years later, the results are real. Not only do I feel better, but the weight is coming off faster than it went on (never fast enough though). Flight has been a great place to meet new people, some great friends, and always provides the motivation to reach a new PR.
Nicole is a special member, as well. She came to us looking to make a lifestyle change, and that she did! She has become an even better version of herself since joining us. She suffered the loss of her father recently and she found that our community and working out really helped her cope through that hard time.
When I started CrossFit I had literally done absolutely no form of exercise in 14 years. I was pretty much sitting on the couch and having babies. Almost 2 years ago, I had had enough. Chasing 5 kids around wasn’t easy at my size and I couldn’t even climb the stairs to their bedrooms to tuck them in at night without being out of breath. I knew of CrossFit from Raelynn and saw her post a special and thought I should give it a try, not fully intending on sticking with it. HA! You see where that lead… The changes were almost immediate and I was hooked. Now almost two years later I can say this was the best decision I have ever made! I’m happier, healthier and stronger because of it and because of the whole Flight Crew. This is like my second family and I don’t know where I would be without the box or all of you. You’ve got me through the hard times, especially when my Dad passed away. I can’t express my gratitude enough. I am blessed to be a part of this place and look forward to the next few years!
We appreciate the effort that these two put forth day in and day out, keep up the great work guys!
