Welcome to May everyone! The weather is heating up and it feels so good to get sweaty! Working hard at the box is no stranger to this month’s nominees for athlete of the month. Congrats are in order for:
Amanda Nagelkirk and Anoy Xayamongkhon!
Amanda is one strong mother. It is no surprise that she was nominated as an athlete that others look up to. She is someone that will go the extra mile before and after class to be closer to reaching her goals. She is also one of the most technical athletes in our gym, with almost perfect form in her lifts and other movements. She is setting a great example for her 3 young boys, who often accompany her to gym and watch her in awe. Amanda has and continues to participate in competitions to put her fitness to the test. We can’t wait to see what more she accomplishes!
1. As a mom, what is the best thing about the box?
As a Mom, the best thing about the gym is definitely the time I get to spend with people who have grown to become my friends. When you’re a SAHM, who also works from home, getting out of the house is very important! It’s my “me-time”. I also think its been really important for my boys to see fitness/health become and important part of my life.
2. Who, if anyone, is your motivation?
I have a lot of people that motivate me. My boys are probably number one. Having people that depend on me make it really important to take care of myself. Also, I’d say that everyone at Flight motivates me too. There is such a great mix of athletes that I find encouragement and motivation from each of them. From the first-timer who is brave enough to show up, but also nervous, to the veteran who has been coming for years. I’ve found, in CrossFit, we all motivate each other to be the best we can be, even if it’s only for an hour.
3. How has CrossFit changed your life?
Crossfit has most definitely changed my life! Not only has it changed my fitness level, but it has pushed me mentally more than ever. It has given me a confidence I’ve never had before. The Kool-Aid tastes so good
Anoy is one of the most joyful and fun people you will ever meet! You can look over at him in the middle of a horrendous workout and he will be dancing and singing and you can’t help but smile. He has also made so many great strides in his fitness these past few months. He has been spending extra time with the 9am Crew (which includes Amanda!) after class to work on weaknesses! Anoy has also taken his fitness outside of the gym by competing in Tough Mudders with some other Crew members!
1. You always have the best attitude! How do you do it?
I have no idea. Just people and the coaches make it easy for me to be me.
(We love that you can be you!)
2. You’ve also made great strides lately in your lifts, what’s your motivation? Who, if anyone, do you look up to?
It’s not one person it’s a group of athletes. They push me that’s all I need!
3. What is your favorite thing about the box?
That’s not hard, it’s the people and I just love being there!
Congrats to both of you! We appreciate you!
